Starring...Coco!

I have been allowed my own 'starring role' by way of celebrating my new status...that of fully house-trained pup! I haven't had an indoor accident for a full seven days, which is more than I can say about Milo! I am really proud of myself, but I guess we girls just mature a lot faster than boys!

Toby's Turn!

Toby, Coco and Milo lolling in the kitchen this afternoon...

I'd mentioned to Toby that the jury were still out in regard to their verdict on my last post, although it seemed most readers felt it had passed the grade. As you will recall, Toby had found it a great big bore and had no qualms about showing me just how very bored he was with the gigantic yawn he emitted. He scoffed at my comment and said he's not changing his vote! So, to attempt to appease him, I said I'd prepare a new post featuring 'just' him with the pups.  Since he's so much larger than they are, he looks quite grown-up even though he's only 14 months old and he rather liked that idea...so, here we go, strictly under Toby's direction!

Life goes on...

Well-timed silence hath more eloquence than speech.
~ Martin Fraquhar Tupper ~

I think this has been the longest gap I've had between postings. When I started blogging in November 2010, I was eager to build up a stock of posts so that anyone visiting my blog, were I destined to be lucky enough to have any followers, would at least have found something to read.  That objective has certainly been accomplished, as I see my last post clocked up at number 85.  That means, for anyone who hasn't been following me since Day 1, and that's all of you, there's enough to sift through...if you happen to feel like a visit, but you've already read the most recent posts ;)

Once there was patchy green...

The new paving is on the left (the pathway on the right was always here)...there are still pavers and other bits of equipment on the far side of the pool waiting to be moved elsewhere.
Regular readers of Driftwood Ramblings will know that we were having our lawn removed in two sections of the garden and replacing it with paving this week. We had finally 'had it up to our necks' with battling to get our lawn to grow all summer long, only to have it die back and become a muddy mess at the onset of the winter rains each year.  With five dogs hurtling around the mud and ripping up the straggly bits of lawn, it was becoming even more a headache and so we decided to rip up the lawn and lay tiles instead.

Romeo's Wish Raffle Draw Takes Place Today!

~ Romeo ~

Thank you to EVERYONE who helped Linda in her quest to make a difference to the Shelter from which first Romeo, then both Coco and Milo were adopted. I am delighted to be able to share with you that Romeo's Wish has raised...

11,800.00ZAR = 1,749.18USD

The draw will be taking place at 11h00 today at the Bellville branch of the Animal Anti-cruelty League and the lucky winners of all of the exciting, donated prizes will be announced at 15h00. Linda has asked Helen to do the draw which will be done in the presence of all of the staff on duty today and anyone else who is able to attend as per Linda's open invitation to all interested parties.

The money raised (R6,800 from the sale of raffle tickets, plus two generous donations totalling R4,000) will be used to buy loads of warm blankets, food and medical supplies, as these are the most critical needs at this time. Please visit Linda's blog at the link below to read up further on these developments. She will be posting photographs of the draw and the purchases made, once these have been done.

This is the 'high note' of today's blog post!

...unfortunately, there is also a 'low note'!

May I PLEASE request  that you log on to Di Doodles About Stuff and read the letter she has published. It was edited by the Manager of a Shelter and should make compulsory reading for anyone who loves animals and is genuinely concerned about their long term welfare.

Deep Pools of Pure Love...the Eyes of Tessa!

Tessa, having the last bath I ever gave her.  This was a week before she suffered an incapacitating stroke and we had to have her euthenased to allow her to leave us forever. That day ranked as among the saddest and hardest we've yet faced.

Kitsch or Quaint?

Jennifer of http://threedogsinagarden.blogspot.com/2011/05/garden-gnomes-cute-or-tacky_03.html  has done a great post on the much maligned Garden Gnome. She is an artist, an avid gardener and a marvellous photographer. Along with her three beautiful dogs, Jennifer will keep you delightfully entertained each time you visit.

Her post today reminded me of a garden my husband and I drove past some years ago.  We went back to have a second, better look, driving around the block twice. To the consternation of my husband, I insisted on taking a rather hurried couple of pictures from the car's open window, even though the owner's car was parked outside and my husband reminded me that it could be considered rude.

What do you think?
