"And it never failed that during the dry years the people forgot about the rich years, and during the wet years they lost all memory of the dry years. It was always that way." ~ John Steinbeck ~ |
I have absolutely no idea on what day of the week I was born, but I have been having a woeful Wednesday, today. Since posting this, my dear, sweet Mother has informed me that I was born on a Monday...that means I'm "fair of face!" (Well, maybe I was, once upon a time, but I don't believe that applies anymore!)

It started with a cloudburst in the early hours of the morning. Normally, I love waking up to the sound of rain, but this was a torrential downpour. Again, normally this would be a welcome event, as it means our rainwater tanks fill up. So, why was it not viewed in the normal way this time? Well, I had bought several punnets of seedlings to be planted up in the next day or two and these were standing, in the open, on our outdoor table. I lay in bed with visions of their not only being thoroughly pounded by the heavy rain, but most of the soil being washed out of their little pots. The gutters were blocked and so the rain sounded even louder than it probably was, which made the dogs really loath to pop out of their little doorway, to attend to their ablutions and so, guess what greeted me when I stepped into the kitchen to put on the kettle this morning? A puddle and parcel! This meant hastily shooing them all outdoors, then having to pick up and dispose of "the nasty", afterwhich I had to get busy washing and disinfecting the floor. The kitchen floor and dogs' bedding are washed daily anyway, but I don't usually have to start my day doing these, and vacuuming the kitchen, before I've even enjoyed at least two cups of tea!

Somehow, when a day begins without my tea, it sets the tone for the way in which the remainder of the day pans out. Today, I was full of woe!
Thankfully, I have a brand new day to look forward to, tomorrow, and woe betide anyone who gets me off to an unhappy start! Do you hear that, Noodle?
In other news...our sweet-tooth squirrel has taken to getting inside one of the birdseed feeders. This is the sight that greeted us when we opened our bathroom blind yesterday morning...
This looks interesting...I think I'll try it out for size. |
No good! My nose sticks out one end and my tail out the other! |
My husband photographed the following pictures whilst out on a field trip today...what do you notice in this picture that you've seen before? No, it's not a trick question...I just want to test how observant you are and whether or not you've been paying attention!
Where was I? At home...cleaning up after the dogs, of course! |
I guess my husband felt I needed cheering up...hence the bright yellow fields of canola flowers... |
Aren't they pretty? Yes, they did resurrect my smile! |
Who wouldn't be cheered after seeing fields of canola flowers...stretching as far as the eye can travel? |
Then, there are the Red Bishops! Such beautiful birds! They are very active in all the fields around here now...
Such busy little birds, it's not easy to get a good picture of them! |
Aren't their little nests a work of art? |
In conclusion, I think I need to remind myself that...
"Nobody can go back and start a new beginning,
but anyone can start today and make a new ending."
but anyone can start today and make a new ending."
~Maria Robinson~
Lovely photos, the yellow is amazing!
ReplyDeleteOh I am sad to see you have a bad day but those photos sure do make me smile.
ReplyDeleteThe nest is for sure a work of art. The canola is gorgeous.
I cannot figure out the difference I was never good at that. You will let us know won't you?
Feel better OK. B
Is that the same windmill in your first picture as to the one you posed the question? I do love windmills! I hate waking up to puddles and poop...sadly our old girlie has a hard day containing the two. She has this sad way of the 'walking plops' sometimes. Quite disheartening in oh so many ways. I think fields of yellow canola flowers would perk me right up as well.
ReplyDeleteHugs~
PS However did you spy that bird's nest?
Is your husband a progfessional photographer ? I can't remember but his pictures are fabulous. We have a raider/thief squirrel team that get all the bird seed in our feeders before the birds get a chance too. Thannks as usual for your kind comments to me, you are a sweet-pea , Gina
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you had yellow flowers at the end of your not so great start of a day.
ReplyDeleteHere's to tomorrow.
I'm here to cheer you, Desiree! My dog has accidents in the house all the time, especially when it's raining because she hates to get wet and walk on wet grass or pavement. She's 12 years old and incontinent. I love your squirrel and bird pictures. I live on a wooded lot and have many critters visiting my bird feeder including woodpeckers, squirrels, large sand cranes and a raccoon. I hope your Thursday turns out to be a great one, dear friend!
ReplyDeleteI love these photos, they are beautiful and quite calming. I mostly love the fact that they're all nature and no people are in it, nature is much more beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSad to say we wake up to land mines and puddles once in a while too...
These are beautiful! So peaceful. Several places in France look like that except with sonflowers instead of the canola.
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading my nonsense today. E said she was worried how I was going to end that one but of course I'm devoted to phil so no issues there. haha
Oooh no way!! I couldn't stand being greeted with that in the morning - you're a patient woman Desiree :D)
ReplyDeleteCudos to hubby for bringing you back some beautiful photos!
The second photo of the windmill is perhaps taken from a different angle than the first!
Lovely view from your bathroom window too!
Good wishes for a brilliant day today :D)
All your photos made ME smile, so I'm sorry your day started off all wrong! Better luck tomorrow.
ReplyDeletesuch beauty all around you! even if your day started out poopy! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post Desiree.....spring is comming by you !!...enjoy a happy day...love from me...xxx..
ReplyDeleteIt must be something in the African air because Jo was depressed this morning too. Maybe you have a solar flare affecting your country.
ReplyDeleteI'd be a annoyed having to clean up doggy doo before breakfast.
Your husband's photogrpahs continue to amaze me. As "Antique ART Garden" asked, "Is he a professional?"
ReplyDeleteThe solitary windmill that began your posting and was then shown from another view stands like a sentinel amidst the beauty of those canola flowers--which I've never before seen.
I'm hoping that today is being more uplifting for you, Desiree, and I want to thank you for your posting yesterday on my blog.
What is always clear to me is that you read reflectively and then you consider a posting's import and then you compose your comments.
They are always such interesting and thought-provoking responses to what I've posted. You have a great gift of appreciating others. Thank you.
I have no idea, I read so many blogs, I get muddled, I know poor excuse.
ReplyDeleteAnyway what a day, hope the seedlings did survive?
Thankyou for calling by and taking the time to comment on the Our Garden in August post.
I don't remember the day I was born, but I'm sure my mom was full of woe... heh.
ReplyDeleteI hope your day brightened and that thursday was even better. You should teach the dogs to go out and not fear the rain. Aschiuta loves stepping in all the puddles and turning into a little piggie.
The poor squirrel reminds me of the story with the three bears.
The fields covered in canola flowers are beautiful. I also love to see them when we drive through the country side.
I dreamt of snowing poppies. That would be a pretty sight.
I agree with Lavi - the squirrel pictures reminded me of the Goldilocks and the three bears story. You must have a camera handy in every room in order to get such spontaneous pictures. The photography in your blog is truly amazing. I love it.
ReplyDeleteI love the photos of the squirrel. He looks so funny hanging out each side!
ReplyDeleteWe had already seen the windmill of course :)
The photos brought a smile to my face today. And the quote at the end reminds me of a quote from a song (have no clue of the name) that goes like this:
ReplyDelete"Closing time, every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end"
Nighty night from Texas!

Desiree, The other day we went out and left the dogs behind in the kitchen. When we came home we found one of the dogs had been sick. It was such a mess. I can so identify with the doggy part of your post!
ReplyDeleteThe canola fields are incredible. I love the shot with the telephone poles especially. The poles give a real sense of distance. The Red Bishop nest is a work of art. Have a great weekend!
The nose and the tail . . . oh so CUTE :0) I LOVE your blog!
ReplyDeleteCanola?
ReplyDeleteIs that rapeseed? The fields here are exactly the same in our spring; the smell is quite pungent too.
Hope you have a better day coming up.
All my friends are on your site and you leave a comment on all their sites so I thought I'd check you out.
ReplyDeleteHi.
I was born on a Wednesday and my two kids!
Love,
sandie
Love the windmill pictures -- and the canola fields are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the lovely photos and the mud. LOL. I love those flower photos where the flowers disappear into the horizon as if they went on into infinity. An image I sure can use out here in the desert!
ReplyDeleteMy Dear Friend - I'm so late in commenting, and I'm very sorry about that, but with being away last week - well, that's my excuse anyway!!! Was it the windmill that we had seen before, perchance?! I'm sorry that your day started so badly and that you had to get cracking with the cleaning up before you had your cups of tea!! Lovely photos as always. That field of yellow flowers would lift anyone's spirits! The photo of the squirrel was so funny! We have them here and they always somehow manage to get into the bird feeders. Little pests!! I've enjoyed your comments over at you-know-who's blog! It's all good fun, isn't it? Goodness knows what she's got planned for us at her launch party on the 16th!
ReplyDeleteWhat a silly little squirrel! I'm a Monday's child too- but I find myself full of woe on occasion. I've never seen canola fields before but they are stunning!
ReplyDeleteOk, haven't I seen that windmill before?
EVERYONE! Thank you all for taking the time to stop by and comment. I do so enjoy each and every one! For those of you who recognized having seen the windmill alongside its pump house and lone, bare tree, twice (closeup and from a distance), well done! Great powers of observation :)
ReplyDeleteIt is so hard to start a day against our expectations of it, isn't it? When I go to bed with an idea of what tomorrow will look like (or at least start like) and something radical shifts, it is hard to reconcile my mood.
ReplyDeleteI am pleased that yours was remedied with tea and these gorgeous photos. Thanks for visiting my site. I'll be back soon!
Lovely photos by you both, Desiree, I am a Wednesday's child, and I guess I've had my share of woe, but I'm mostly happy. I've been meaning to tell you that I love all your quotes and add some to a file I keep on favorites!
ReplyDeleteI appreciate all your comments - I had my comments turned off for the weekend since we were visiting my grandson. I will be back to posting on Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteI looked at who comments on your blog and your blogs you followers - we have lots of the same friends.
Hope some day you'll follow me too!
Love, sandie
Oh, my, I guess not all things are going so well, as I mentioned in my last comment! I hope your little plants survived OK. Our dog doesn't like going outside in the rain, either.
ReplyDelete((sorry it's taken me so long to make it around...i'm s l o w l y trying to get caught up...how quickly one can fall behind....))
ReplyDeletei LOVE the rain too...
the beautiful field of yellow blooms would certainly be a day brightener!! and THOSE flowers will last!
your bathroom view...with mr squirrel doing his acrobatics from the feeder...HA! it might take me a while to leave the bathroom!
that orange & black bird is awesome!!!! and that round ball of a nest! wow!! amazing!!
thanks desiree! as always...i have missed wandering through your place...hopefully i can try to get back to a normal schedule...and not be gone for so long!!
