Short and Sweet

This pink drink is really addictive!

For once, I'm trying out a new formula...to keep this post short and sweet! My last one was sooooooooo lengthy even I was wondering if it was ever going to end. You may recall that I'd mentioned the squirrels also enjoy the sugar water we ostensibly put out for our nectar feeding, feathered friends. This morning, my husband managed to get a couple of hastily snapped pictures of this sweet-tooth, little culprit dominating the nectar bottle outside our bathroom window...

I just have to go back for more!
That's it from me for today, folks, but I really would like to encourage you to click on the link below...

...to read a heartwarming tale that is bound to put a smile on your faces!

  1. I thought you were spoiling the birds, but I see some furry thieves at the nectar too. I'm sure they're all welcome though.
I heard the news about Noodle on facebook. I'll hurry and read about it now. One more to doggysit, eh? :D

  2. LOL, I can't wait to share this with my husband. He has been wondering how our 'feeder' has been evaporating before his eyes. Now we know. We have a gazillion squirrels living around us. Many more than hummingbirds sadly.

Thanks for the link, that was a very touching story and precious pooch! Thanks also for following my gal pal Amy...she is so excited!

    Hugs~

  6. Squirrels are the most resourceful critters ever. We have one that hangs by his hind legs to get to the suet feeder. He looks just like a bat.

    Great story of Noodle!

  14. Aw, those photos are just too cute! We have a chipmunk who steals from the bird feeders in my lilac tree. I have yet to catch him with a camera, but I laugh at him, and his crazy contortions to get at the seeds.

  15. Are squirrels native to SA or were they introduced?

  16. Vicki: good question! I had to do a quick bit of research in order to answer your query. The Cape Ground Squirrel is endemic to SA. The Eastern Gray Squirrel was introduced from the USA.

  18. i saw your little squirrel on someone's side-bar and had to come over to say hello. how cute and sugar-addicted is he?! :) we have plenty of varmints here in Texas raiding our regular bird feeders, and we've had some raccoons pull down the sugar water feeders on occasion too.

  19. What a cute little 'theif'! I love the pink color of the nectar contrasting with the squirrel's gray fur. I am trying to catch up on my blog reading today while I hide from the intense heat and you were my first stop. It is always a treat to visit your blog with the great pictures and stories about your life, pets and travels.

  22. Maybe if we hung squirrel feeders, they'd ignore them and the birds would eat from them! I love watching squirrels and listening to their chattering.

  23. Hi Desiree - I'm here at last! That WAS short and sweet for you!!! Brilliant photos that your husband has captured again - you'll have to start paying him soon my friend! That little squirrel is certainly enjoying the pink fluid. I will pop over to your daughter's blog to read the other story now.

  27. I've always admired squirrels who are, as Deb, said so resourceful. I'm a new blogger, and looking at your blog and others, I can see that posting photographs really adds interest. Now I just need to learn how to use a digital camera and a scanner and all that jazz. Thanks for inspiring me!

  28. I love to watch squirrels. I had a friend who had one as a pet. She was adorable and so attentive of her human family. Only the game warden found out and made her give Bitsy up....

We are ok, Dad is slowly slipping away. But it is time and I am OK with that.

  29. Now I feel bad about saying the last post was so long. The post I just did was too long, I think. So hard to get all the pics and info you want in these posts , but I am aware when it seems to be taking me too long to write the post ( lots of pics add tons of time ), then it may be too long for my readers. Now this post was too short, so see I am balancing out my comments ! Take care , Gina

  32. I think those squirrels want all the birds' food! I have a bird feeder out that a squirrel is always trying to raid. I just hung up a nectar feeder today. I'll watch out for the squirrel for that one, too, I guess. Sneaky squirrels!

  33. Hi Desiree, Most of the creatures in your part of the world seem pretty exotic to me. The squirrels on the other hand look and seem to act pretty much the same!
