A bright, sunshiny day. Perfect weather to spend a couple of hours quietly absorbing all the loveliness on offer at Van Den Berg Garden Village outside Stellenbosch.
After having received a number of requests to walk you through the Orchid Greenhouse at the marvellous Van Den Berg Garden Village nursery we visited in my last post, I bid you 'WELCOME', as we step inside.
Beautiful! I like the smell of an orchid greenhouse and imagined it as I scrolled through the photos. The one, very spotted orchid really drew my eye. What a lovely place to walk on a gloomy day.
Oh WoW sweetie, you have definitely found your pot~o~gold under your rainbow. What a beautiful sight. All ya need now is a yellow brick road!!!! Gorgeous!!!
God bless ya and have an extraordinary day where all your dreams come true! :o)
Dearest Desiree, Wow, I'm speechless!!! They are absolutely stunning and beautiful. Lovely, aren't they♡♡♡ And thank you SO much sharing these Orchid at Van Den Berg Garden Village nursery with us. I was reminded again from your picture that orchid sure have so many kinds and really GORGEOUS. In my city, there is a tropical plant section in the city park. Not as many as these in there.
To tell the truth, I don't have much knowledge about botany and if I did, I might not have named it for my blog name. Also, I thought the way you said "Kaleidoscope of Colour in the Orchid" is absolutely the phrase for this flowers. Oh, way pass bed time but I couldn't wait commenting until tomorrow when I found this post (*^_^*)
Again, thank you so much for the wonderful time. Much Love and Hugs to you, Orchid*
Your camera has captured more of nature's splendor, Desiree. I have containerized orchids of my own but I wish that I could linger in this nursery on a spring day and enjoy the brilliant colors and magnificent fragrance. My father's hobby was nature photography and he had an enormous collection of pictures like yours. I admired him because he took just as much interest in texture as in color. The subjects of his pictures included such things as tree bark and fungus. Thank you for another delightful post and thank you very much for your exceptionally nice comments on my blog, dear friend. Enjoy the remainder of your day and evening!
Okay - again - and I don't know why I don;t know more about orchids - but I didn't know there were so many colors - I loved number 15 the red and I loved the purple ones.
So tell us about the weather there - is there snow or cold - do you have the four seasons?
Yes, we definitely have four season. Right now, it's Spring of course and, although the winters where I live are not as bitterly cold or even half as severe as those experienced in Northern climes, we do have some very cold snaps, with snow and hail on occasions. Further north in SA, it can be bitterly cold, too and some places get quite snowed in when the winter months are especially harsh. Generally, though, we enjoy wonderfully warm daytime temperatures for much of the year and rather hot summers, but not nearly as hot as some places, either, so we are rather spoilt for climate!
(and yes, we were able to get a few bits of rain this past month - an inch or so at a time sometimes - but enough to get some green grass appearing again in the pastures!)
These orchids are a welcome blaze of colour! I am green with envy - especially about the fact that you are in spring. Soon, the last of the colour will be gone from here and Winter will tighten her grip!
Thank you Thank you Thank you I so enjoyed the trip. The flowers are gorgeous and I can almost smell their beautiful sweet fragrance. I do imagine it had been very hard to pull yourself away and leave this sensual delight. Desiree I just wanted to thank you also for your wonderful comments on my blog. You are certainly one of the reasons I feel free to write the way I do. This means more to me than I can ever convey. You do ease my self doubt and encourage me enormously. B
Hi Desiree, Sometimes you can find orchids here in stores, but never ones and exotic and lovely as these. There were many I lingered over as I scrolled through. Favourites might include the magenta pink, the pure golden yellow and the orangey-red ones.
Desiree, Lush and lovely, just oozing gorgeous! I never dreamed there were so many different colors of orchids. Absolutely stunning photography. I am so jealous!
YOU are such a sweetie. I am so glad you took us inside. My Mom had something like that in her yard..and raised all sorts of plants..but of course not so extensive ...what a lovely place.. LOVE it! Thanks Des. And thank you for that precious comment on my blog. I didn't mention you by name today..but I was thinking of you..when I wrote. You seem to look into my heart and mind sometimes..and that is just so dear to me. Hugs, Mona
I was once an assistant manager in a local greenhouse. It was a place I would have lived in if I were allowed to! Thanks for bringing back that memory. The orchids are fantastic! I would have loved to have walked there with you, my sweet and loving friend.
I am constantly overwhelmed by the beauty we find in nature and your photographs are awesome as usual. I love flowers as you can tell when Linda and I go where they are blooming. Currently we are having the most wonderful weather with temperatures in the 60's & 70's during the day (F). Hope all is well with your family and thanks for sharing your finds. Odie

Hi Desiree. Those orchids are absolutely stunning - what beautiful photos of that Orchid Nursery. I love the spotted ones and the purpley-lilac ones. Although I love gardening, I have never really been very successful with indoor plants. Thank you so much for your comments on my various posts, and especially for searching back through the dusty archives for my very first post. (Wish you told me you were going to be popping over. I would have made sure that it was all dust free for you!!). Must be nearly your one year anniversary I would think. I've tried to be very good since my daughter and granddaughter arrived from France on Sunday, and I haven't been blogging at all, but just had to pop over to see what you were up to my friend. Hugs.
Hi Desiree, It's been too long since my last visit. Your photos are delightful and beautiful! As usual, just as I think I've found my favorite, it is followed by three or four rival pictures!
Hi Desiree! What a beautiful place. I would stay there for days taking pictures, if they didn't escort me out that is... You're blog is a spot of tranquility for me in this crazy, crazy world. Love it!

My father-in-law would love this place. He grows a few orchids in his backyard here in PE, but nothing this spectacular.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous flowers! I have an uncle who grows orchids. Quite a hobby.
